First One To Leave The Party bursts with the most wide-ranging arrangements of Gilligan’s career. As delicate synth melodies weave its way throughout the EP, Gilligan captures a specific moment in time. Each song unfurls another aspect of the final party that Gilligan attended before COVID-19 shut the world down - or at least, how Gilligan wished that final party had played out… Opening track, “Up All Night” is as dynamic as it is playful as Gilligan traces the snap decision to go out and party, to stay up all night, to replace lovers with friends, and to dance with a room full of strangers. “Get Well Soon” is the shared, sacred moment with friends in an Uber, and is followed by a sweet and melancholic ballad, “When You Forget Me”. Nostalgic laden “First One To Leave The Party” sees Gilligan find closure and self-worth, making the grand exit from the party after confessing everything she needed to say to an ex. Closing track, “It’s Not You, It’s Not Me” is the clarity, acceptance, and forgiveness as she emerges from the chrysalis.
